September Swallows

Knots on wires uncurling:

crochets escaping staves,

commas punctuation.

September swallows,

avionics engaged,

suddenly frenzied

as though their true selves,

too long furled,

must hone their aeronautics:

wheel, swoop, sweep;

for tomorrow

they will trace lines of longitude.
